What We Believe
United Methodist Beliefs
The Methodist movement began in the 18th century under the leadership of John Wesley. Since that time, there are many churches and denominations who have connected with God and read scripture in a way that connects with the teachings of Wesley. If we identify with Wesley, we would call ourselves "Wesleyans." The United Methodist Church is Wesleyan in its theology (how we view God, understand God, and talk about God). The United Methodist Church was formed in 1968 and was a merger between the Evangelical United Bretheren and the Methodist Episcopal Church; this how the name "United Methodist" came about. The United Methodist Church is a connectional church that is all over the world!
